There are mysteries in scripture that are far above our understanding (Isaiah 55:8-9). Contradiction? Absolutely not these two things, being a father and being a son, are different in context.īe on guard against those who argue the Bible contradicts itself. I also have a father, which makes me a son.Īs I write this, I am simultaneously both a father and a son. Jesus is speaking of losing on the one hand and saving on the other.īecause losing and saving are not a contradiction, neither are His words. In Matthew 10:39, Jesus is using a paradox Jesus means that someone losing his life in one sense will find his life in another sense. Yet, if we look intently, we can find answers. Paradoxes can be confusing because they appear to be contradictions. The word paradox comes from the Greek root and means "to seem or appear." This is where understanding paradox helps. How can someone lose something and yet, at the same time, find the very thing he lost? On the surface, this looks and sounds very much like self-contradiction. Take Jesus' words this morning "He who loses his life for My sake will find it." Throughout history, the Word of God has constantly been scrutinized.Īnd no scrutiny has been more significant than the scrutiny of contradiction: people argue that the word of God contradicts itself thus, it cannot be true. Paradoxes can be mentally straining and downright confusing.īut what a paradox is not…is a contradiction. Clark once defined a paradox as a "charley horse between the ears." “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.He who loses his life for My sake will find it.Ĭhristian philosopher Gordon H. This system has been an incredible blessing to our family. A small thing we know but thought we would mention it. However there are some verses and passages that we would love our children to know and they aren’t in any of the packs of course it would be impossible to include every verse that each individual family would like and so we wondered if some blank cards could be included in each pack so that families can add any verses they wish and then the additional cards would fit nicely in with the rest of the cards? Maybe the card size is a standard one in the US but it certainly isn’t in Europe and so our added verses are on smaller cards. The verses chosen in the packs are excellent. This is a beautiful part of our family life. We have been amazed at how quickly our children (now aged 4, 3 and 1) have been learning the precious words of Holy Scripture and since we say the verses along with our children we have been memorising them too. We have been using this memory verse system for approximately a year now and we highly recommend it. Each box is individually handcrafted by a homeschooling family in Tennessee, using carefully selected fine wood and focused attention to detail. Honor and celebrate Scripture Memory time as a special family tradition with this lovely, heirloom-quality box. We also have a handcrafted Scripture Memory Box available.
